Technology - Good Or Bad - Or is the Jury Still Out?

Many consider that technology is awful as it takes people away from the important things in life, such as family, community and love. This is a decent argument considering the evolutionary history of the human species, but obviously all technologies is not bad.

For instance the Rural Poor of Honduras require little things like a solar panels for lighting for their schools, churches and septic tanks, or understanding of how to build them. In parts of Africa, they just have to learn how to drill wells for small villages for the off-rainy season. Tech, even the most basic technology could vastly enhance their lives, and it wouldn't even require that much, just a bit will be wonderful.

So is technology in that situation awful? Of course, the counter-argument has to do with other issues, such as mobile phones, computers, iPods, robotics, and also the future of nano-tech and artificial intelligence. Indeed, it's unfortunate that humans have used the technology and energy in irresponsible ways such as using nuclear power to build WMD. Of course, humans learn from such things, which can be good.

These were some serious times in WWII when the US dropped the first and only atomic bomb at a war. In the future, mankind will unlock a lot of other secrets to physics too.

Some will be so strong that they will resolve all the issues of energy, space flight, propulsion, pollution, etc.. And the question is humanity ready for them?

Well, no and yes. Certain elements aren't ready, others are. Can individuals be trusted with such power?

Again some can, others, well, I am not so sure. So, who determines? This in itself is a large responsibility. I believe people can handle it, but there will be problems and also a learning curve also. It is definitely something we ought to be thinking about.
