What's The iPhone Augmented Reality?

Augmented fact first appeared over 50 years back, more recently it looked in high tech conflict gear for soldiers. However, now with the flexible iPhone, there is a rising number of games and applications which overlay a digital world in addition to the actual world.

But what is augmented reality, what exactly are its uses, and why is it suddenly such a huge deal?

To start with augmented reality actually is as simple as displaying digital items or advice on top of a real-world view. This is not particularly new, a very simple example would be of the info shown 'on the field' during a soccer match. This is a superb illustration of how computer-generated information can be overlaid on a real-world scenario to provide highly relevant information in a visible but non-obtrusive manner.

It has military applications, for example having the location of enemies overlaid on 'combat goggles', and entertainment applications, like alien invasions, happening over your cityscape. More practical applications exist, however, and augmented reality may be used in tour guides, to tell you about the celebrities, or even help tell you about particular objects through simple object recognition.

The uses of augmented reality are only beginning to appear in day-to-day life.

But as object recognition gets increasingly more intelligent, it is highly possible that games will alter the existing planet, rather than just overlay new images on top of it. Instead of having static images and data overlaid on the real Earth, there might be programs that seem which alter the current landscape.

These can turn your present skyline into a futuristic landscape with buildings changed to incorporate modern stylings into current structures and not just incorporating futuristic objects

Augmented Reality is now a massive deal over the last year for one simple reason. Apple created an upgrade which allowed third-party apps to utilize the iPhone camera for a video camera. This new medium abruptly gave innovative application developers a structure where they can unite reality with virtual reality.

It has spawned a new generation of iPhone games, but in addition to that, it has created the chance for a totally new kind of game and program style. From this new technology, there is a strong probability that even more imaginative uses are available for combining the virtual and real world.

As the years go by I foresee augmented reality becoming a more integral part of daily life, however until that time comes I will delight in the augmented iPhone games, which are basically what'Pong' is to 'Call of Duty' now!
